Choosing a girls PG in Delhi is mostly about one thing: feeling safe and settled from the first night. Photos cannot tell you that, but a careful visit can. This checklist covers what to look for, what to ask and what to get in writing, whether you are a student or starting your first job.

How many girls PGs are there in Delhi?

Plenty. On 10 October 2026, LSC Smart Living listed 1,808 PGs in Delhi, and 846 of them are for women only. Another 190 are open to anyone. Rents across Delhi start around ₹3,000 a month for a shared bed and go much higher for private rooms in central areas. Most include meals.

Popular areas for women include GTB Nagar and Vijay Nagar near the University, Karol Bagh in Central Delhi and Laxmi Nagar in East Delhi. You can see every women-only PG on PGs in Delhi by choosing "Women" in the filters.

The 15 safety checks for a girls PG in Delhi

The building and the street

  1. The route home. Walk from the nearest metro station to the PG in the evening. Is the street lit? Are there shops and people around?
  2. The main gate. Is there a guard, a lock and a visitor register? Who has the keys?
  3. CCTV. Ask where the cameras are and whether they cover the entrance and corridors, not the rooms.
  4. Fire safety. Look for extinguishers, a clear staircase and a second exit.
  5. Balconies and windows. Check that windows have grills and balcony doors lock from inside.

The people and the rules

  1. A resident warden. A woman warden living on the premises makes a real difference.
  2. Who else lives there. Ask whether the building is women-only or only one floor is.
  3. Visitor rules. Clear rules about male visitors protect everyone. Make sure they are written down.
  4. Entry timings. Know the gate closing time and what happens if your class or shift runs late.
  5. Talk to a resident. Ask a current resident how long she has stayed and what she would change.

The room and the agreement

  1. Your own lock. Each room and cupboard should lock, and you should have the only key besides the owner.
  2. Clean, working bathrooms. Check the locks on the bathroom doors and that there is hot water in winter.
  3. Police verification. Delhi requires tenant verification. A PG that does it properly is also more careful about who stays there.
  4. A written agreement. It should state the rent, deposit, notice period and what the rent includes.
  5. Receipts for every payment. Never pay a deposit in cash without a receipt.

Questions to ask the owner or warden

  • What happens if I need to leave early, and how much notice do I give?
  • When is the deposit returned, and what can be deducted from it?
  • Are electricity, Wi-Fi, laundry and cleaning included?
  • Who fixes things when they break, and how quickly?

The answers, and how willingly they are given, tell you a lot about how the PG is run.

After you move in

Share your PG's address and the warden's number with family or a friend. Save emergency numbers on your phone, including 112 for police and 1091 for the women's helpline. Note the nearest hospital and pharmacy.
