How to Find a PG Without a Broker in Delhi (Step by Step)
Brokers add a month’s rent for a job you can do yourself. Here is the no-broker way to find a good PG in Delhi — from the first search to moving in.
On this page
Most people in Delhi still find a PG through a broker and pay a full month’s rent for it. You do not have to. With listings online and owner numbers a tap away, you can do the whole thing yourself in a weekend. Here is how.
Why skip the broker
A broker in Delhi usually charges one month’s rent, sometimes more. For a ₹8,000 PG that is ₹8,000 gone before you have slept a single night. A broker also shows you the places that pay them, not the ones that fit you. When you search yourself, you see everything and you keep the money.
On LSC there is no brokerage. You see the room, then call or WhatsApp the owner in one tap.
Step 1: Search by the right area, not the whole city
Delhi is huge, so start from where you need to be — your college, your office or your coaching. A few busy PG areas to begin with:
- Karol Bagh — central, well connected, good for working professionals
- Mukherjee Nagar and Old Rajinder Nagar — the UPSC belt
- Laxmi Nagar — budget rooms on the Blue Line, from about ₹3,000
- Lajpat Nagar and Saket — south Delhi
You can see every area with rooms on the Delhi PG page.
Step 2: Shortlist with filters, not hope
Set your budget, pick girls / boys / co-ed, choose with-meals if you want a mess, and sort by what matters. A good shortlist is five to eight places, not fifty. Save the ones you like so they stay with you.
Step 3: Read the listing properly
Before you call, check:
- Rent and deposit, written clearly — not “rent on request”
- How many photos, and whether they show the actual room, the washroom and the common area
- House rules: gate timing, guests, food, notice period
Step 4: Visit before you pay
Never pay a deposit on photos alone. On the visit, check water pressure, the washroom, mobile signal, the kitchen or mess, and talk to one person already living there. Go once in the evening to see the real crowd and noise.
Step 5: Talk to the owner directly and agree in writing
Call or WhatsApp the owner, confirm the rent, deposit, notice period and what is included (electricity, Wi-Fi, food). Get it on paper or on WhatsApp before you pay. For a longer stay, read our guide on what to check in a PG rent agreement.
Red flags to walk away from
- An owner who wants a deposit before any visit
- A “caretaker” who will not let you meet the owner
- Rent far below the area’s going rate — usually a hidden catch
Do these five steps and you will find a PG you actually like, without paying anyone a finder’s fee. Start on the Delhi PG page.
